Park Description

Franconia Notch State Park, located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, offers a diverse range of recreational activities amidst stunning natural landscapes.

Key Attractions:

  • Flume Gorge: A natural granite gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mount Liberty, featuring cascading waterfalls, covered bridges, and scenic pools. The 2-mile loop trail provides an immersive experience of the area’s geology and flora.
  • Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway: An 80-passenger cable car that ascends to the 4,080-foot summit of Cannon Mountain in under ten minutes, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
  • The Basin: A 20-foot-wide, 15-foot-deep granite pothole formed over 15,000 years ago by the Pemigewasset River, showcasing the erosive power of water.
  • Echo Lake Beach: A pristine lake offering swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating opportunities, with rentals available during the summer season.

Recreational Activities:

  • Hiking: The park features numerous trails catering to various skill levels, including the Franconia Ridge Loop, which traverses several 4,000-foot peaks and offers breathtaking vistas.
  • Biking: The Franconia Notch Recreation Path is a multi-use trail spanning the length of the park, suitable for biking, walking, and rollerblading.
  • Camping: Lafayette Place Campground provides 97 wooded tent sites, complete with amenities such as showers, a camp store, and access to hiking trails.
