📖 About This Campground

Shaw County Park Campground on Shaw Island Washington provides primitive tent camping in a county run park. With a total of 8 sites available 6 are located along a bluff overlooking the ocean while 2 are hike in campsites tucked into the trees on the inland side of the park road. The bluff facing sites can accommodate camper vans but they are not advised; primarily this campground is for tent campers. Advanced reservations are available and encouraged during peak season. Sites have picnic tables, fire rings and an amazing location. To get to Shaw County Park Campground campers must first get to the island via boat, ferry, kayaking or swimming (the later is highly discouraged) Ferries depart Anacortes and make regular stops at Shaw Island. The ferries can carry vehicles of all sizes and are reasonably priced (not cheap but not overly expensive either). Once on the island private cars are allowed or the more adventurous can bike camp and ride over to the campground. Water, restrooms and a playground are available in the park. Aside from narrow, empty roads and Arcadian beauty, a small grocery store at the landing, and one park and campground at sandy Shaw County Park, Shaw Island has no commercial amenities. Shaw has an area of 7.7 square miles. Population is 165. The park is open year 'round with reduced fees and services during winter (November 1-March 31), when all sites are on a first-come, first-served basis only. Note: during winter, there is no drinking water available at Shaw County Park. Firewood sales are limited during the off-season; check at Park office. RVs and trailers are not recommended at this park.
