About Spencer Spit State Park
Spencer Spit State Park, located on the eastern shore of Lopez Island in Washington's San Juan Islands, is a 138-acre marine and camping park renowned for its unique sand spit enclosing a saltwater lagoon.   Recreational Activities:
  • Camping: The park offers 37 tent campsites, including seven walk-in beach sites and two group camps. Amenities include fire pits, a dump station, and restrooms; however, there are no showers or hookups. Reservations can be made online or by calling (888) CAMPOUT or (888) 226-7688.
  • Boating: With 11 mooring buoys on the Cascadia Marine Trail, the park is accessible to boaters. Kayaking and canoeing are popular activities in the surrounding waters.
  • Fishing and Shellfishing: The park is known for excellent crabbing and clamming opportunities. A recreational license is required for fishing and shellfish harvesting.
  • Hiking and Wildlife Viewing: Approximately two miles of hiking trails provide opportunities to explore the park's diverse ecosystems, including forests and wetlands. The area is a migratory stop for waterfowl, making it ideal for birdwatching.
Facilities:
  • Picnic Areas: Two kitchen shelters without electricity and 15 unsheltered picnic tables are available for day use. The kitchen shelters include picnic tables, a barbecue grill, and a fire pit.
  • Restrooms: Two restrooms are available; however, there are no shower facilities.
Access and Fees:
  • Location: The park is approximately 4.6 miles from the Lopez Island ferry landing, making it accessible by car, bicycle, or boat.
  • Operating Season: The park is open from April through September; specific dates may vary annually.
  • Fees: A Discover Pass is required for vehicle access, costing $10 for a day pass or $30 for an annual pass. Camping fees vary depending on the site.
