A universally accessible fishing pier and a fish cleaning station are available near the Thirty Acres boat ramp.
- Swimming: Unsupervised swimming beaches are located at the Thirty Acres campground and Crescent Beach, providing opportunities for relaxation and water activities during the summer months.
- Hiking and Biking: The 1.6-mile Stubb Severson Nature Trail offers insights into local flora and fauna, with 20 marked sites along the path. Wildlife such as deer, waterfowl, and songbirds are commonly observed. Additionally, the park connects to the 33-mile hard-surfaced Sauk Rail Trail, suitable for hiking, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.
Camping and Accommodations:
- Campgrounds: The Thirty Acres Campground and Camp Crescent offer electric and non-electric sites, modern restrooms, and showers. Playground structures and sand volleyball courts are available nearby. Reservations can be made online, with a portion of sites available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Cabins: A fully furnished, year-round cabin, originally a CCC ranger residence, is available for rent. It comfortably sleeps eight, with accommodations for up to eleven.
Events and Activities:
The city of Lake View hosts two annual events at Black Hawk Lake:
- Lake View Water Carnival: Held the third weekend in July, featuring free entertainment, carnival rides, games, street and water parades.
- Arctic Open: A unique golf event on the frozen lake, typically held in February.
Historical Significance:
Many park structures were constructed by the CCC in the 1930s, showcasing rustic architectural styles. Three sections of the park were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
