📖 About This Campground

Munising Pictured Rocks KOA in Munising Michigan is located 3 miles from downtown tucked off Michigan 28. The new KOA (as of 2017) has an upgraded office, store and rec area, improved facilities including heated pool and restrooms and overall is in the process of upgrading to meet KOA standards. The park is accessible for any size RV with some caution noted due to the heavy forest setting. All the sites are set among towering pine trees but the sites and roads are smartly designed to create plenty of room for navigation. Campsites have picnic tables and fire rings with options for full and partial hookup camping. All of the roads and parking pads have packed dirt (a sandy base of dirt that holds up well to water). There are a handful of sites situated up in front of the office for late arrivals and overflow camping. The park has old style playground equipment. Munising is a tourist destination that invites hikers, ATV riders, kayakers and outdoor adventure lovers to explore the Hiawatha National Forest, Grand Island and Pictured Rocks area. Formerly Wandering Wheels Campground. From KOA: “The nicest part of where we’re located is the surrounding area,” says Karin Madigan who owns this campground with her son. “It’s beautiful. There’s lots of privacy, no worries and it’s safe for children. That’s important to us.” Perfect for a week or weekend getaway, the Munising / Pictured Rocks KOA offers spacious pull-through and back-in RV Sites with either full or partial hookups. Comfortable Camping Cabins are also available. The campground is located near the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which is a big draw in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. But there’s plenty to do on the campground, too. The tree-filled property has over 400 acres of walking trails, a pavilion for large gatherings and a variety of activities for guest of all ages. There’s also a heated swimming pool, playground and sports courts for volleyball and basketball. “It’s affordable to come up here and there are so many things to see,” Karin says. “Guests love to stay here and take day trips to see the sights, like Grand Island, Lake Superior, which is just four miles away, and more than 30 waterfalls in the area.”

Nice campground with great shady, mostly level spots. Utilities and cable are good. Navigating is a bit tight with the turns and trees.
