We lucked into this one. There is literally one site in that can accommodate a rig of our size and we got it. Site 1; any of the other sites you would be limited to about 38' max. There are numerous obstructions that make backing difficult, site 1 has a roadway straight ahead so you can pull up that and back straight in; leaving you go out the loop and out the entrance avoiding the tight exit by the dump station. $14 per night for full hookups (off-season) and a scenic setting. Verizon 4G was great.

Walnut Woods State Park Campground is a peaceful, wooded getaway close to West Des Moines and easy to reach from I-35/I-80. Campsites are generally spacious side-to-side with asphalt roads, concrete pads and patios, and electrical hookups at most sites, making it a good value for the price. The park offers well-maintained hiking trails, strong birdwatching opportunities and family-friendly features. Practical tradeoffs include no showers, seasonal water shutoffs in colder months, and some sites that can be tight for larger rigs or hold water after rain. It’s popular and often books ahead, and mosquitoes can be heavy in warm months.
