📖 About This Campground

Sprague Creek Campground in Glacier National Park near West Glacier Montana is located along the northeast shore of Lake McDonald just off the Going-to-the-Sun Road and is only open for tent campers. Sprague Creek Campground has a mystical appearance and best resembles a fairy homeland with its near constant dew covered plants, green moss covered paths and idyllic setting. The only downside to the campground is the adjacent Going-to-the-Sun Road and its accompanying road noise. The heavily shaded campsites are located along a small paved loop road and most of them are situated at slightly different altitudes. The lake side campsites are the prime spots with peeks of the lake through the trees. Fresh water, flush toilets, sinks, and dish cleaning station are available at the primary restroom near the camphost (by the entrance). There are a few hike/ bike campsites in this campground also. Sprague Creek Campground is a first come first served location and due to its small size, unique location and previously mentioned idyllic setting fills fast. We wouldn't advise you to make reservations at a nearby campground like Apgar or Fish Creek as a fallback but that would not be a bad strategy either. Bring your swim trunks, canoes, and kayaks and launch right from the shore; accessible via a stairway path down to the water. Vehicle length restrictions are strictly enforced due to the narrow roads and tight turns 21' max. Can you camp in your van, truck camper, or small RV? Possibly. Will they kick you out? Possibly. We have spotted and even have a photo of a truck camper staying here. There is a shuttle stop service to this campground to access other areas of the park. As with all the Glacier National Park campgrounds bear boxes are limited and shared. Because this is a tent only campsite your care and attention to properly handling food and scented items is vital to the safety of yourself, other campers and the bears.
