📖 About This Campground
Slate Creek Campground is a rustic, peaceful forest hideaway nestled in the West Fork canyon of the Bitterroot National Forest, just minutes from the scenic waters of Painted Rocks Lake. Operating at an elevation of 4,500 feet, this budget-friendly 13-site campground is split into two distinct loops, providing an excellent off-grid option for tents, camper vans, and smaller trailer setups up to 25 feet. While the front loop offers year-round, snow-dependent access, the entire facility operates under a strict "pack-it-in, pack-it-out" policy with no potable water or garbage services. Serving as an exceptional staging ground for trout fishing on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River, boating on the nearby reservoir, and rugged wilderness trail hiking, it delivers an authentic, unplugged Montana escape.
