What campers say

Painted Rocks State Park is a small, out-of-the-way spot reached by a scenic, paved road. The campground is quiet, well-kept and largely first-come/first-served, with picnic areas and a boat launch for boating, paddleboarding and kayaking. The reservoir is seasonal and can be much lower in autumn; the water is cold. The colorful rock formations make it a strong choice for photography, and visitors often enjoy wildlife viewing. Expect winds to pick up in the afternoon. There are limited developed amenities nearby, and some nearby OHV trails are steep and best suited to experienced riders.
