What campers say

Portola Redwoods State Park is a small, peaceful park of majestic redwoods with a variety of hikes from short loops to longer, steeper routes. Despite its proximity to the Bay Area it often feels remote; you can expect little or no cell service. The campground is family-friendly, with secluded group sites, clean restrooms, dishwashing stations, an informative visitor center, and on-site firewood. Practical tradeoffs include tight, winding access roads and occasional mosquitoes in low-lying areas. A few visitors note mixed interactions with staff or minor amenity issues, so plan ahead and arrive prepared.
