Mammoth Campground

Mammoth Campground in Yellowstone National Park Wyoming provides primitive tent and RV camping adjacent to the Mammoth Hot Springs complex. First come first served this is the only campground open year round in the park. The camping sites are situated in a mix of chaparral, grass, and trees. Hiker and biker designated campsites are available. Mammoth Campground in Yellowstone has the benefit of being year round but the disadvantage of not being overly scenic. The sites are rather close and better suited to RV camping. The main road loops right around the campground so some noise (notably from motorcycles) can be pronounced. Hiking trails allow campers to walk up to the Mammoth Hot Springs Area; the trails are unique as many follow board walks built along the hillside. Running water is available seasonally along with restrooms with flush toilets and sinks. The Mammoth Area provides access to grocery, restaurants, and other amenities. In addition Gardiner MT is close by for additional supply needs. During peak months this campground fills regularly and is popular with larger RVs due to the easy pull thru access. Sites for large RVs are not very level so RV owners are advised to bring plenty of leveling blocks. Elk frequent this area and regularly are seen in camp. This is not a petting zoo; these are wild animals don't try to pet them or pose with them for a viral Instagram shot ;). Paved roads and dirt parking pads.
