Park Description

Hickison Petroglyphs Recreation Area 24 miles east of Austin Nevada is a BLM managed area that offers 16 campsites (suitable for tents to small RVs). No water open year round. A great place to take a walk, let the kids run, have a picnic, spend a few days camping, and look at ancient petroglyphs. Hickison offers long vistas, shade, and an opportunity to think about early Native Americans hunting, drawing on rock, and living in this area. The cultural resources at this site are protected by federal law against damage, defacement, removal, etc., and visitors should take care to help protect these sites. The native rock should not be carved, painted or otherwise modified in any way.

Accessed via a short graded packed gravel road the campground is immediately adjacent to the petroglyph areas. While larger RVs may be able to fit we advise anyone with a unit over 35′ to look elsewhere. The campground road is a one way loop that meanders through a forested setting and the turns and access into the campsites can be limiting for large units. Smaller RVs will find nice little campsites with picnic tables, fire rings and BBQ pits… all for free.

Pull thru, pull along and backin sites are available. Miles of BLM land all around for hiking, biking and off-roading.
