What campers say

Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area offers scenic overlooks and varied hiking trails with spectacular sunsets and good birdwatching. Fees are modest (reviews mention about $12–$15), and the park is often uncrowded. Amenities include tent campsites with covered picnic tables, a visitor center/gift shop and small hands-on museum, a shooting range, picnic areas, and restrooms; some campsites reportedly provide free firewood. Trails range from easy meadow walks to moderate valley routes, though signage could be improved. Campsites sit close together, so privacy is limited. Overall well-maintained and a solid choice for short stays, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

📖 About This Campground

Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area 10 miles south of Gering Nebraska is a game reserve situated in rocky butte area. There is no designated camping area at Wildcat, although primitive camping is allowed on several grassed parking areas and at smaller, near-level sites along the interior trail roads. The summit access road is not accessible for large RVs, vehicles towing larger camping trailers or boat trailers, since the turnaround is extremely sharp. That road entrance is well-marked.
