What campers say

Thayer Campground is a small, remote riverside spot on the New River with direct access for fishing and launching kayaks. It offers only four walk-in campsites on a first-come, first-served basis and a single chemical port-a-potty—no showers. The approach road is narrow, winding and can be rough in places, so drive carefully. Many find it scenic and private, but visitors should expect frequent train activity (including horn blasts), neighborhood dogs and roosters, and occasional trash or overgrown areas left by other users. Good for a river getaway if you accept limited facilities and potential noise.
