📖 About This Campground
Sunrise Point Campground at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area in San Francisco California provide 6 primitive hike in tent camping sites in the newly opened camp area (2018) on San Francisco Bay. Located just east of the former Candlestick Ballpark the campsites are located on a spit of land that stretches into the bay as one side of Jackrabbit Cove. Sites have food lockers, grills, flush toilets and safe water, although there are no showers and campfires aren’t allowed.
There’s also access to the trails and 3.4 miles of shoreline in the 151-acre state park, which was created in 1977. And the campground has an uninterrupted view across the bay — each of the six sites is no more than 30 feet from the water.
This area is famously windy, popular wind surfing spot, so be prepared to strap everything down. The area has also become popular with transients so unless you are familiar with what you are getting in to don;t come here for a great camp-spot near San Francisco.
The campground is only accessible via the San Francisco Bay Trail (hike/bike) and the San Francisco Bay Water Trail (boat) – View Map. Camping fees are $35 per night. Visitors are advised to arrive before dark, as lighting is non-existent after dark.
