Steel Wheel Campground & Trading Post offers well-maintained grounds, friendly staff, a clean bathhouse, an on-site trading post and a convenient gas station. Sites include level pull-throughs and can accommodate large rigs; cabins and family amenities (pond, paddle boats, laundry) add appeal. Location is convenient for Deadwood, Lead and nearby OHV trails. Guests note good water pressure, quiet nights and helpful staff. Tradeoffs: some cabins are basic without kitchens or private baths and parts of the gravel can be muddy after rain; a few guests reported inconsistent pet leash enforcement and spotty Wi‑Fi. Overall, many guests recommend it.
