Palisades-Kepler State Park offers scenic hardwood forests, limestone bluffs and river views along the Cedar River, with a variety of well-maintained trails ranging from easy walks with benches to more strenuous, steep sections and stone stairways. It's popular for hiking, birdwatching, picnicking and family visits; cabins and RV hookups are available. Expect wildlife and seasonal color, and usually adequate parking, though weekends are busier. Practical tradeoffs: some trail and road signage could be clearer, a few stair sections are steep or slick, and the river area is better for wading and play than for formal swimming.
