What campers say
Padre Island National Seashore at Malaquite Visitor Center offers a wide, largely undeveloped Gulf shoreline with strong wildlife viewing — shorebirds, turtle nesting and diverse shells — plus both protected car-free beaches and stretches where driving, beach fishing and tent/RV camping are allowed. The visitor center provides information, a small gift shop and helpful staff; there are bathhouses, showers and restrooms near the beach. Expect windy, flat, exposed conditions and limited lighting after dark in some areas. A day-use fee supports the park, and some campsites are first-come, first-served.
