Nearly two dozen camping sites at the Oregon Inlet Campground were upgraded with electric and water services, according to Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials. The upgraded amenities at the 23 camping sites are expected to be in high demand this season, so National Park officials are recommending visitors make reservations in advance. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore will install electricity and water at another 24 camping sites this upcoming winter. "These amenities help to meet the desires of today's park visitors and provide a quieter camping experience for RV and tent campers by reducing campground noise that is present when generators are used. Our staff has made excellent progress on this project," Superintendent David Hallac said. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance by calling 1-877-444-6777

What campers say
Oregon Inlet Campground offers direct dune-top camping with a short walk to the beach and convenient mid-Outer Banks location. Many sites have water and 30/50A electric; restrooms and heated showers are available but basic. The park is dog-friendly and affordable, with a dump station across the highway at the marina. Expect open, exposed sites with little shade, frequent wind, and packed-in neighbors at peak times; dunes walks can be sandy and uneven. Seasonal mosquitoes and occasional flooding of low sites after storms have been reported. Good for easy beach access if you arrive prepared for wind, bugs, and variable site conditions.
