J.W. Wells State Park is a family-friendly Lake Michigan campground with sandy swimming areas, strong lake views and a clean, updated bathhouse with hot showers. Sites are generally roomy and some sit right on the water, offering excellent views but more exposure to wind; inland sites are more sheltered. There’s a large playground, a day-use area with pavilion and sports courts, trails for walking and kayaking access. Camp hosts and staff are reported as welcoming, and the park is dog-friendly with a separate beach. Practical tradeoffs include limited site privacy and grassy campsites that can become soggy after rain; a convenience store is nearby.
