What campers say
Henry W. Coe is a large, rugged park with sweeping views and a true backcountry feel — popular for challenging day hikes, backpacking and quiet, wildlife-rich camping. Visitors commonly report encounters with deer, birds and other wildlife, secluded primitive sites, creeks or swimming holes, and very dark night skies. Practical tradeoffs include hot, dry, hilly terrain, some overgrown sections on trails, and limited water availability on routes, so plan and carry ample water. Staff and volunteers are generally helpful, and occasional maintenance or construction near the visitor center can affect the immediate area.
