Colonel Denning State Park combines scenic, well-marked trails and a small lake with a modest, well-kept campground. The Flat Rock Trail is a popular but strenuous, rocky climb that rewards hikers with a wide Cumberland Valley vista; sturdy boots and extra water are recommended. Doubling Gap Lake has a pleasant, family-friendly beach but is relatively small and shallow. Camp sites are generally maintained but sit on hilly, sometimes uneven ground and can be close together; facilities include a renovated bathhouse, water, dump station and camp host. Expect limited cell service in parts and occasional biting insects, so come prepared.
