This campground is somewhat difficult to reach due to the steep winding road with 3-4 hairpin curves leading up to it. Anyone with a trailer longer than 20' would be best served to drop the camper in the small parking area where the road starts and scout the drive up first. Most campsites are small and open with minimum privacy but the location itself is awesome. Restrooms (no showers) are clean but fairly old. No hookups but a dump station is available and spigots are scattered throughout the campground. Easy access to several of the most popular day hikes in the Park. The only restaurant and lodge within the Park are located nearby,

Chisos Basin Campground sits high in Big Bend with immediate access to popular hikes (Window, South Rim, Lost Mine) and offers outstanding sunset and stargazing. Sites provide food‑storage lockers and basic restrooms, but showers are not at the campground — coin showers or lodging facilities are a drive away. The basin is noticeably cooler than lower park areas and can be very windy and cold at night. Roads into the basin are narrow and steep, so large RVs or long trailers are generally discouraged. Sites fill up quickly; camp hosts and rangers are helpful and the area is well maintained.
