What campers say

Black Sandy State Park is a well‑kept, convenient lakeside campground close to Helena with boat ramps, docks, and a mix of tent and RV sites. Many guests praise clean restrooms, reliable electric hookups (including 50‑amp), friendly hosts, and easy access to swimming and fishing along a sandy shoreline. The park is popular and can be busy, with several sites sold as paired spaces that sit close together and may limit awning use or privacy. Roads into the park include some narrow, downhill gravel stretches—so drive cautiously. Verify water and dump‑station arrangements before arrival, as experiences vary.

📖 About This Campground

Black Sandy State Park Campground on the shores of Hauser lake northeast of Helena Montana offers tent and RV camping. Popular public campground sites offer electric hookups and all of them are located lake side. A smooth slope takes campers right down to the shores where boaters can anchor and play in the water. A boat launch is available along with water spigots, restrooms and a dump station. Located in a scenic setting the park is accessed via a 2.5 mile graded and coated dirt road. Sites can handle most any sized RV but are "buddy sites" with two RVs back to back. Large yards separate sites. There is a handicap accessible site. No cell or over the air TV service in this remote location. Some sites available for advanced reservation. Large shade trees located between the back of the sites and the water front provide great lounging areas in the mid-day sun. The road continues past this campground toward Hauser Dam.
