What campers say
Big Bay State Park on Madeline Island offers spectacular Lake Superior shoreline — sandy beaches, rocky bluffs, long coast-view trails and a scenic boardwalk to a lagoon/bog. Campsites are well spaced and walk-in sites provide extra privacy; the campground is generally quiet and family-friendly. Park restrooms are reportedly very clean though facilities are primitive in places. Expect excellent hiking (coastal and wooded trails) and clear signage with bear-food precautions. Tradeoffs: some sites have limited tent space, and dog access to beaches and many trails is restricted. Parking areas let you see highlights without very long hikes.
