Park Description

Fruita Campground located in Torrey, UT in Capitol Reef National Park offers 71 RV and tent camping sites in several loops. Adjacent to the Fremont River. Sites are first come first served but fill quickly during peak season. Located adjacent and within the historic Mormon Homestead the campground is situated among large shade trees in a flat plain adjacent to the small muddy creek/ river. Accessible to any size RV this scenic and unique location provides immediate access to a 10 mile one way scenic drive, the historic home turned amazing bakery and a couple hiking trails.

Running water and flush toilets are available. A group camp area (accessible via a dirt road) and walk in tent campsites along with paved roads and parking pads combine to make this a user friendly place to camp. 10 miles from the nearest town bring your necessities.

A dump station is available along with fresh water for your tanks.

Need to Know

  • Deer are often found within the campground. Do not approach or feed them. As a visitor, you are responsible for your safety and the safety of the animals. Keep a distance of 30 feet between you and deer. You are responsible for backing up to a safe distance, even if the deer moves toward you.

  • Generator hours are from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The Fruita Campground has 71 sites. 65 sites are reservable from March 1 to October 31. Sites 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 are used as administrative sites. There are no first come first serve sites during peak season.

  • Fires may be built only in the grills and campfire rings provided. *Note: *Sites 7, 48 and 50 have grills, but no campfire rings.

  • Wood gathering is prohibited within the park. Firewood may be purchased at the Gifford House during business hours or at local stores.
  • Please fully extinguish fires.
  • Washing dishes or clothing is not permitted at water faucets or in the restrooms. Gray water must be collected and dumped into the utility sink.
  • All pets must be leashed (6 feet or less in length) at all times. Pets are not permitted on the trails or in the backcountry and must not be left unattended.
  • You may pick fruit in orchards posted as open. There is no charge for fruit consumed within the orchard but all fruit taken out must be weighed and paid for. A scale and self-pay station are provided near each open orchard.
  • Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • There is no cell coverage at the campground. Please have your confirmation and site information available

  • Don’t Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org. to learn more.

Pull-In - Pull-in style RV sites. These sites generally are best suited to RV coaches with a windshields. Pull-in can include pull thru sites or sites designed specifically to pull nose in and back out to leave.
Hiking - Hiking opportunities immediately from the campground or within a very close distance. If you like to hike, explore on foot or even jog/ run this RV park or campground has access to hiking trails.
Biking - Easy access for cyclists looking to ride bikes. Our information, reviews and data show that this destination either has bike trails passing through the park or the surrounding area is suitable for bicycle riding. Rural - Set in a rural setting. Rural locations allow you to escape the city and explore the countryside.
Primitive - Offering primitive sites. Primitive sites may have varied amenities available but our definition of primitive campsite means it does not have electric, water or sewer hookups available. The majority of tent sites are primitive in nature.
Dump Station - On-site dump station for draining sewage tanks. Our information, reviews or photos suggest that this spot has a dump station available. Fees may be charged for dump station use; contact the location office or manager for information and rules about the dump station.
Open - Open sky above your site. There are sites with no shade or obstruction offering an open sky setting for RV satellite tv signal or star gazing.
Tourist - Provides facilities for tourists. Generally these campgrounds are located near points of interest or are designed to accommodate novice campers and RV travelers. If you are a tourist this location may be right for you.
.GOV - Managed by a government agency. Usually the Forest Service, a national park, BLM, Corp of Engineer, or the like. This location is a public park.
Paved - Paved roads or site pads. Pavement can be asphalt, concrete or paver stones. Minimizing dust and capable of supporting large heavy RVs this RV park or campground has pavement.
.RECREATION - Accessible for reservations or more information at recreation.gov. It is a public park.
