Park Description

Davidsonville Historic State Park near Pocahontas Arkansas offers full, partial, and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping adjacent to a recreational lake. The park preserves the site of historical Davidsonville.

Davidsonville Historic State Park in Arkansas is a captivating camping destination that combines rich historical significance with modern recreational opportunities. The park spans 163 acres and preserves the remnants of Davidsonville, an important early frontier town established in 1815. Although little of the original town remains visible, archeological excavations continually uncover fascinating artifacts and foundations.

The campground at Davidsonville Historic State Park includes 20 campsites with water, 50-amp electrical hookups, and a modern restroom with showers, ensuring a comfortable stay. The park also features Class AAA sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups. Picnic tables and fire rings are provided at each site, enhancing the camping experience.

Fishing is a major activity at the park, with access to the Black River and Trapper Lake. The park offers a boat ramp and pedal boats for rent, allowing visitors to explore the waterways and enjoy a peaceful day of fishing or paddling. Anglers can expect to catch various species, including bass, catfish, and crappie.

Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the park’s trails, which wind through scenic landscapes and historical sites. The Black River Trail offers a pleasant walk along the river, while the Historic Townsite Trail takes visitors through the heart of the old town, providing interpretive signs that detail the town’s history and the ongoing archeological efforts.

The park’s visitor center is a must-visit, featuring exhibits on the area’s history and archeological findings. Highlights include a replica 1820s hunter-trapper flatboat and an audio tour that brings the history of Davidsonville to life. Educational programs and interpretive tours are available year-round, offering deeper insights into the park’s historical significance.

For families and groups, the park offers picnic areas and a newly renovated pavilion that can be reserved for gatherings. The spacious and shaded picnic areas provide a great spot for outdoor meals and relaxation. The park’s playground and open fields offer additional space for children to play and for families to enjoy recreational activities.

Davidsonville Historic State Park is not only a haven for history buffs but also for nature lovers. The park’s diverse habitats support a variety of wildlife, making it an excellent spot for birdwatching and wildlife photography. Seasonal events and programs further enrich the visitor experience, ensuring that there is always something new to learn and explore.

In summary, Davidsonville Historic State Park offers a unique blend of historical exploration and outdoor recreation. Whether you’re fishing on the river, hiking through historical trails, or camping under the stars, the park provides a memorable and enriching experience. Its combination of well-maintained facilities, educational programs, and scenic beauty makes it a top destination for campers seeking both adventure and a connection to Arkansas’s rich heritage.
