Wood River Campground, located within the Shoshone National Forest near Meeteetse, Wyoming, offers a tranquil camping experience along the scenic Wood River. This small, shaded campground is ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat in a natural setting. Amenities and Features: Campsites: The campground features five sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The maximum spur length is 30 feet, accommodating tents and smaller RVs. Facilities: A vault toilet is available for campers. Please note that drinking water is not provided; visitors should bring their own supply. Additionally, there is no garbage service, so campers are required to pack out all trash. Recreational Opportunities:
  • Fishing: The Wood River offers opportunities for fishing enthusiasts.
  • Hiking: The surrounding area provides access to various trails suitable for hiking and nature exploration.
  • Wildlife Viewing: The region is home to diverse wildlife, including deer, elk, and various bird species.
  Access and Location: Directions: From Cody, travel south on State Highway 120 for 32 miles to Meeteetse. Take State Highway 290 west of Meeteetse for 7 miles to the Wood River Road (County Road 4DT). Follow the Wood River Road for 12.5 miles to Forest Road 200, which begins at the national forest boundary. The campground is located 1 mile west of the boundary. Elevation: The campground is situated at an elevation of approximately 7,250 feet, resulting in cooler temperatures, especially during the night.
