We've camped here twice, mainly for the location. If you want to be in Tahoe and near the city, it's a good choice. It's all dry so plan ahead, no showers either. The sites themselves get a 4 because they have nice tables and fire ring, separated nicely with asphalt pads, not level but not too challenging. They have re-designed the campground and changed the site numbers, so call ahead to make sure your rig will fit the spot reserved. What you see online may not be accurate. Example: Site 5 said 40 foot, but turned out to be around 20. Not good if the place is booked. We got lucky with one open site that was about 35 foot.
About this campground
The campground offers dozens of campsites, available for tent and RV camping. Each is equipped with tables, campfire rings and grills. Flush toilets and drinking water are provided. Each yurt provides a cabin-like space for a family of five or six people. The yurts sit on a wooden platform interior furnishings include a futon and bunk beds with mattresses. Cooking supplies and bedding are not provided. The tent and RV sites have paved parking aprons. Each yurt and standard site has a bear-proof food storage locker, campfire ring, pedestal grill and picnic table.
William Kent Campground is situated in a residential area, alongside a busy highway. The campground has more than 80 sites, each surrounded by tall pine, cedar and fir trees. Many of the sites are secluded with evergreen shrubs and the terrain, with its shallow gullies and low ridges, helps to keep each site separate from neighboring sites.
Just minutes away from the campground, 22-mile-long Lake Tahoe provides sunbathing, swimming, boating and water skiing. Anglers can look forward to healthy fish populations of kokanee salmon and mackinaw, rainbow and brown trout. The campground is also ideal for people planning a full day of bike riding around Lake Tahoe. Bike trails that traverse the western shores of Lake Tahoe begin near the campground.

William Kent Campground is a scenic, tree‑lined site within easy walking distance of the lake and town. Many guests praise friendly, helpful hosts and well‑kept grounds, but there are also reports of strict or rude enforcement from some staff. Expect frequent bear activity — large bear boxes are provided and visitors should store all scented items. Sites can be tight and some back up to neighborhood yards; restroom noise and generator use have bothered campers at times. Practical notes: there are no showers, dump use costs extra, and firewood sales end in the late afternoon, so plan accordingly.
