What campers say

Whitetail Campground is a small, quiet, wooded National Forest site with about 17 campsites (roughly 12 reservable online and a few first‑come). Several lakeside sites sit near Deerfield Lake, offering clear water for swimming, kayaking and canoeing; the lake’s shoreline can be shallow so a small boat or kayak is often preferable. Amenities are primitive: clean pit toilets, water spigots and no electrical hookups; off‑season visitors may find no trash or wood service. Good trail access and proximity to Black Hills attractions make it a convenient base, though some sites lack flat tent pads, roads can be dusty, and dog/ATV fees have been reported.
