What campers say

The Ward Charcoal Ovens are a well-preserved, scenic historic site featuring six large stone ovens you can walk into, offering a tangible sense of 1870s mining history. The park is quiet and remote, with short hiking trails, picnic areas and a small, basic campground with clean vault toilets. Access is via a firm, well-maintained dirt road that most cars and modest rigs handle easily. An honor-system fee is posted at the entrance. Visitors should weigh the brief nature of the stop, often a short walk and photo opportunity, against the travel time on the unpaved approach.
