What campers say

Walnut Grove Campground is a small, quiet site in the Chiricahua Mountains with about nine to ten individual sites arranged in a circle. Visitors note a seasonal creek, cooler temperatures, and scenic, less-crowded surroundings, with access to historic Camp Rucker and nearby trails. Vault toilets are reported very clean and well maintained, though supplies (toilet paper) may occasionally run low. Expect roaming cattle around the area. A practical tradeoff is the long, rough 23-mile access road — slow driving and secure stowage are advised, especially for trailers or RVs. Fee is about $15 per night.
