This was our maiden voyage with our first travel trailer and we wanted to stay close to home and to our RV dealer so SM fit the bill. I grew up in this area and know the overall park well. There are a ton of things to do in the park BUT the entire thing was built as a tribute to the Confederacy, so that part is gross to us. I for one would love to see changes on that front. We were in site 258. The Campground was crowded for memorial day weekend and I’m very glad we pulled in early on Friday so there were not vehicles in our way or too big of an audience for us getting into the site. I knew they are slowly refurbishing the sites but this one was NOT. We struggled for an hour trying to get our rig leveled side to side and we never fully succeeded, even with all the blocks and boards we had (all of our stuff was brand new and not scuffed yet so we had trouble keeping the curved leveling blocks from slipping on the gravel and out from under our tires). We were really worried that we were going to break our fridge being off level but I finally texted a pic to an rv experienced buddy and he assured me that it would be fine. The main issue was the terrible state of crumbling asphalt, the back of the site was kind of collapsing into the gulley right behind us. It was just deep enough that we could park the truck at an angle after we were unhooked. It is a tight loop but we saw some massive 5th wheels navigate in after us, those drivers seemed very experienced. There are other loops that seem more big rig friendly with level paved sites. Cable didn’t work well but other hookups were fine. Wifi was very weak and we had surprisingly poor t-mobile reception for being so close to town. Overall a good experience and helped along our learning curve! We camped at Stone Mountain Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stone Mountain Campground is the closest campground to our home. Because of this it was the first place we went to try out our new camper. They have every type of camping site you could want from tenting on the lake to RV sites, to glamming in a yurt or fully equipped trailer. The campground is divided into sections called loops. The loop with the pool and camp store is the most densely populated, reminding me of a parking lot but all the other loops have lots of shade and more privacy. The campground sits on a small lake that is great for Kayaking, canoeing and paddle boards. The park itself is huge and has two hotels and a low key amusement park. (No roller coasters but an old train ride, ride the ducks, a paddle boat) they have seasonal shows and host many festivals throughout the year.

Stone Mountain Park campground is heavily wooded and is nestled around one of the larger lakes in SM Park. Every Friday night, there is a great seafood buffet at the Evergreen (Marriott) Center that is worth it. Keep in mind that you have a $ 10 entrance fee to the park that is NOT credited to your overnight campground fee. You’ll have all the amenities of SM Park in the area and I would recommend staying at the campground
