What campers say
South Llano River State Park is a compact, scenic park prized for its clear river (swimming, tubing and paddling), varied hiking, and excellent birding blinds maintained by volunteers. The campground is quaint and quiet with tidy bathhouses and good stargazing—visitors note dark‑sky protections and reduced exterior lighting. Wildlife sightings (armadillos, deer, turkeys, occasional hogs) are common and dogs are welcome on leash. Expect limited campsites and some access or trail closures at times; a few visitors mentioned minimal signage or that the visitor/permit station sits a bit off the main entrance, so plan accordingly.
