What campers say

Sand Flats Recreation Area is a compact, scenic playground for off‑roaders, hikers and cyclists. Popular routes (including Hell’s Revenge and long loops toward the La Sal Mountains) offer dramatic views; some sections need high clearance or specialized vehicles while many loops are doable in stock rigs. Campsites are available for a small fee (about $10 for a multi‑day pass) and rangers are friendly and informative. Expect open‑air pit toilets, limited hand‑washing facilities, summer heat and strong winds at times, and increased noise or crowded sites during peak season and events. Bring plenty of water and basic recovery gear; cell service can be spotty.
