The couple who operate Prineville Reservoir Resort want out of their lease with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and the RV campground won’t open this summer. Gregg Garnett, Bend field office manager for the bureau, said Rick and Julie Mayers have approached the agency about ending their contract early. “None of the facilities associated with the resort is expected to be opened this coming summer,” he said in an email. Prineville Reservoir Resort is a water-focused campground with many conveniences: a well-stocked store, fuel dock (90 octane no ethanol), coin showers, RV hookups and a dump station, and small hotel rooms. Waterfront sites and easy boat access when the lake is full make it popular for families and groups with water toys; mornings can be calm for boating or fishing. Sites are mostly dirt rather than grassy and well water isn’t great for drinking, so bring potable water. Many guests praise helpful staff, though there are occasional complaints about management and customer service.
