Port San Luis has to be on everyone's campground bucket list. The views are spectacular, the location is on the water, and the micro-climate allows excellent weather all year round. Restaurants and shopping are within walking distance. Avila Beach resort offers an excellent golf course, and there is a ton of activities to keep you busy when you're not watching whales breach in front of your RV. Note: The Port is embarking on a new development which will take out many of the beach front campgrounds. The Terrace project includes some 150 new campsites but they are up on the hill overlooking the bay. If you want a spot on the beach, get here soon. After the project starts these sites will be out of commission and the project is supposed to begin sometime in 2016. Advice: Have a plan B back up campground plan. It's a destination spot that is very popular and it doesn't take reservations. First come first served. Plan on arriving on Sunday through Thursday if you want a better chance. Forget Friday arrivals in the summer. Fall and winter you might have a better chance, but not much.

What campers say
Port San Luis RV Campground sits right by Avila Beach with several waterfront dry‑camping sites and easy beach and kayak access, including an off‑leash dog beach. Guests praise the location, views (Nobi Point), nearby cafes and fishing/seafood options, and friendly staff. Tradeoffs include tightly spaced sites and road/power‑plant noise at times, especially at night. Facilities are functional — pay showers, a dump station, and metered water — but users note extra fees and limited availability. Best value if you want immediate beach access and don’t mind closer quarters or paying for hookups and services.

All about the location. Very popular tourist area meaning there is little privacy and the price is a bit high but we know that going in. Both dry and full hookup sites are nice.
