What campers say

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park on Lake Superior offers sweeping overlooks (Lake of the Clouds is a frequent highlight), varied scenery from old-growth forest to waterfalls and rocky shoreline, and extensive hiking including challenging elevation gains and long backcountry routes. The visitor center and park staff are repeatedly praised for being friendly and helpful. Trails are generally well-maintained though some sections can be rocky or soggy. Backcountry campsites deliver remote lakeshore views but may be unsuitable for families and require reservations. Expect heavy black flies in season—bring strong repellent and long clothing.
