Petersburg Campground shows a mix of positives and tradeoffs following Hurricane Helene. Several loops and many sites remain closed while volunteers have rebuilt portions; a reopened loop offers large, level, roomy sites with picnic tables, grills, lantern poles and power hookups (50/30/120) plus water, beach areas and a boat launch. Bathhouses are functional but older, and some guests noted cleanliness issues. Expect noticeably less tree cover and privacy until regrowth occurs. Phone/gate contact can be unreliable during arrivals. Overall it’s a pleasant, spacious lakeside park if you’re prepared for limited availability and ongoing cleanup.
