📖 About This Campground

Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Canyon Texas (South of Amarillo) offers primitive, equestrian, and RV camping at multiple campgrounds within the park. Most of the buildings within this state park, protecting a picturesque canyon and desert wild-land, were originally constructed in the 30's by CCC members. Several of the camp loops can accommodate larger RVs with water and electric hookups available.

I give it 5 ☆. I didn't see any where to check the stars.

I grew up in Canyon, it's west of Palo Duro state park. The road down into the canyon is steep but paved, just use low gear and you'll be fine. The park is awesome in the early spring and fall, it gets Hot in the summer but there's lots of big Cotton wood trees. If you've never been to the over crowded Grand Canyon then check Palo Duro it's amazing to drive through with the water crossings and beautiful scenery. There's well maintained restrooms and the camping is great. There's Mule Deer, Turkey, and other critters to.

What a great park. Don't let the canyon decent scare you, it's totally worth it to camp on the canyon floor. We made it in with our Class A towing the whole way down. Tons of hiking and rock climbing and plenty of history as well. It is so unbelievably quiet here and you can see all the stars in the sky at night.

Amazing state park. Nice sites for a spring vacation. Great hiking trails and scenery. For a state not known for state parks this one is really nice.
