We booked the premium water front site with deluxe patio for three nights but ended up leaving after two. The bug situation was overwhelming—we couldn’t sit outside without being swarmed, and even inside the camper we had to stay sealed up to keep them out. It made relaxing outdoors impossible. Another camper told me that the premium sites have the raised patios, but that is where the bugs are residing. The camper to our right also in a Premium Deluxe patio site booked for a week and also left after two days because of the bugs.

Connectivity was another major issue. There was no Wi-Fi at our site, and cell service frequently dropped to SOS. I work remotely in the mornings and explore in the afternoons, but I had to go sit near the camp store just to get a quality signal. Not ideal.

The location itself is fairly remote—most attractions are at least an hour away. That’s fine if you’re looking to disconnect, but it added to the inconvenience for us.

The permanent resident section was a definite downside. One morning, I heard shouting from that area, followed by another camper confronting the situation, and eventually the sheriff showed up. It didn’t feel peaceful or secure.

Overall, this campground didn’t meet expectations for a premium cost. Between the bugs, poor connectivity, and unsettling atmosphere, we couldn’t justify staying the full duration.

This is the corporation’s first property in North Carolina and will be operated in partnership with Kampgrounds of America (KOA), according to a press release.
