What campers say
North Wheeler Recreation Area is a well-maintained, somewhat remote campground on the bay with two adjacent campground areas. Many sites, especially back-in pads, provide electric hookups (30/50 amp and 110V outlets), while some tent areas are primitive with no water at sites. Vault toilets are available but there’s no shower house or dump station, and pay-by-card equipment has been reported unreliable. The access road is steep, gravel and has switchbacks, which deters some drivers and means limited cell and TV service. Good for boating, fishing and quiet camping; registration or a state park permit is required and sites are generally first-come, first-served.
