Lewis and Clark State Park offers a strong interpretive experience — a replica keelboat and small museum highlight the historic ties to the expedition — and several easy trails along the water. The campground feels spacious and often peaceful, with family-friendly amenities such as a playground and boat access for fishing or paddling. Practical tradeoffs include a low lake and sections of beach and docks that can be overgrown, occasional swim advisories, and mixed reports on restroom upkeep. In-season bugs can be bothersome. Walk-up sites are reportedly unreliable, so reserving sites in advance is recommended.
