What campers say

John Martin Reservoir State Park offers expansive reservoir views, strong sunrise and sunset scenery, and a mix of open and shaded campsites that are generally large, level, and equipped with electrical and water hookups. Amenities include boat ramps, a dump station, coin-operated showers (short run times), a visitor center, and regular ranger presence. Visitors find the park quiet, clean, and staff helpful. Expect abundant waterfowl viewing but occasional noise from geese and occasional odors near service areas; some reviewers also noted low lake levels affecting fish. Choose sites based on shade preference and plan for brief shower cycles.

We stayed at JMRSP July 29-August 3, 2019. Our back-in site was clean, and the gravel was very level. Picnic table and fire ring. Water available at spigots conveniently located all around. Loved the spacious campsites and shade from all the trees. Shade was very important this week because it was really, REALLY hot outside! But beautiful dark skies at night. Because we were there during the week, there were very few campsites occupied, so things were very quiet and comfortable. The bathrooms were nice and clean, with flush toilets and although one shower was on the fritz, the pay shower located in the laundry building worked fine. The washers and dryers were excellent (first time we have ever had a need to use a campground laundry!). The biggest downside was...the bugs. Be sure to take your insect repellent and citronella candles! We would definitely stay here again! We were camping with a 28' travel trailer, and had plenty of space for our truck as well. There were plenty of campers who had their boats parked on their sites along with their tow vehicles. A great place for families and reunions!
