Highland Recreation Area is a large, family-friendly park with well-maintained, clearly marked trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, plus opportunities for kayaking, fishing and picnicking. Campgrounds feel rustic and peaceful, with many visitors reporting clean sites and facilities. A sandy beach and boat launch provide swimming and water access, though the beach is on the small side and requires a short drive from the main gate. Trails reward exploration and history lovers will enjoy Haven Hill and other historic sites, but expect occasional muddy sections, downed trees and uneven or faded markers in places.
