What campers say
Haakwood State Forest Campground is a quiet, rustic riverside site with roomy, hammock‑friendly campsites, trails leading down to the Sturgeon River, and an old orchard with apple trees. Sites typically provide a fire ring and picnic table; the campground has pit toilets, a hand‑pump well, and generally maintained bathrooms. It’s popular for fishing, hiking and biking, and is a convenient base for Wolverine and Indian River. Amenities are limited (no hookups), so bring firewood and extra water; expect a very dusty access road. Some visitors report abundant poison ivy, so take usual precautions.
