What campers say
Elkhorn Campground, accessed from Dosewallips Road, is a scenic backcountry spot along the river reached by a roughly 2-mile hike from the trailhead. Campsites sit near the water and feel secluded; cleared spots and a pleasant river breeze are commonly noted. Access requires hiking in because the paved road is washed out and parking is roadside, and sections of trail can be washed or involve rock scrambles. Facilities are minimal (no privy reported), so plan to pack out waste, secure food from wildlife, and follow Leave No Trace. Best for those comfortable with backpacking and lightweight camping.
