Don Carter State Park sits on Lake Lanier and offers well-maintained grounds, clean restrooms, paved RV sites (including pull-throughs), cottages that are spacious and well equipped, and a sandy beach with kayak/paddleboard rentals, fishing, hiking and horse trails. Playgrounds and regular nature programs add family-friendly options, and a group shelter and kitchen are kept tidy. Practical tradeoffs include occasional daytime maintenance noise from leaf blowers, camp sites that can be a downhill walk to the lake, and asphalt pads that are less comfortable for tent camping. Overall it’s a peaceful, wildlife-rich park popular with families and RVers.
