What campers say
Deer Park Campground sits high in Olympic National Park, offering spectacular alpine views and easy access to Blue Mountain and Obstruction Point trails. The ascent involves a long, narrow, steep gravel road with exposed switchbacks - manageable for many cars but not suited to large RVs. The small, tent-focused campground (about a dozen sites) is first-come, first-served and fills early; there is no potable water and only pit toilets, so bring supplies. Nights can be chilly even in summer. The remote setting yields quiet and frequent wildlife encounters, making it a rewarding base for hikers who accept limited amenities.

Stars! On a clear, moonless night the stars are AMAZING! For us this is a fairly short trip so we can plan around the weather. While driving up the winding dirt road we keep our fingers crossed since we never know if there will be an open site - first come, first served. Be sure to also drive on past the camping area to the lookout area looking back to the North, the Straights of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island.
