What campers say
Center Lake Campground in Custer State Park is a shaded, peaceful lakefront spot with a sandy beach, paddling and fishing; about 71 sites serve tents and RVs though only a few are large. There are no electrical hookups but potable water, vault toilets and lakeside showers are provided, plus trash service. Cell service is spotty — a pay/park phone is available — and same‑day reservations open early, which can make booking tricky without reception. Sites are relatively close together and access includes some tight turns; many smaller trailers fit fine. Wildlife (including occasional bison and birds) is common; a few visitors noted localized issues such as dead fish.
